Year Long Program
Reiki and Tai Chi
Tai Chi & the Usui System of Reiki
This year, we’ll be focusing on the practices of Tai Chi and the Usui System of Reiki.
Usui Shiki Ryoho is a Japanese healing art that is characterized by the gentle laying on of hands to flow or channel universal life energy in an effort to promote balance and healing on the physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual levels.
Tai Chi (aka Tai Chi Chuan) is a Chinese martial art that is characterized by the practice of gentle, relaxedly slow movements and stretches, to cultivate vitality in the forms of energy and power in the body/mind.
Over the course of the year, we’ll be focusing on cultivating and deepening our awareness of, and facility with, energy. In the early weeks and months, we’ll do a deep dive into Usui’s Reiki healing methods and focus on personal healing and how to integrate it into our lives and other practices. As we gain familiarity and facility, we’ll then move into partner work and other possible applications of energy work. We’ll also explore and practice Yang Style Tai Chi Movement Forms from a Qi cultivation and circulation standpoint. We will discuss healing applications and techniques, but martial applications will not be a focus this year, though we may rarely be martially adjacent if on a tangent.
Students of all levels are welcome to apply.

What’s covered in the class
Class Structure
Each class will include 3 parts:
Introduction
Warm-up and Meditation
Forms and Techniques
Introduction
There will be discussion of core concepts, philosophies, theories, premises, and/or world view, along with introducing the focus for the particular class.
Warm-up and Meditation
We’ll spend time warming up and loosening our bodies, followed by sitting or standing meditation to find the qualities of stillness and non-doing that will become ever more important and necessary as we go. This will also help us gain deeper self awareness and develop the internal structures and strength needed for health and wellbeing.
Forms and Techniques
Over the course of the year we will learn and investigate the Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki healing method and the 108 posture Yang Style Tai Chi Long Form. As we progress, we’ll peel back the layers of these forms to deepen our experience and understanding. We may not always practice both in the same class and will often focus on one or the other.
We will also eventually learn and practice partner work with another person but not until we’ve established the basics of practicing for one’s own wellbeing and health.
Students will also receive energetic assistance during each class. This means that I work with your energy field to balance, protect and amplify your energies. This helps you flow with a higher level of energy (Qi) and also helps you integrate the techniques and methods more easily. It’s two hours of bonus energy work each week!
Comments, questions, concerns, and closing
We’ll end with a question and answer period and close out.
* 2-3 water breaks are typical, and students are free to break when needed to care for themselves.
WHO THIS PRACTICE IS FOR:
You practice and train every day (or nearly) outside of class.
Ready for evolution and change. These practices will start to transform your life.
Basic ability to move around and stand for a few minutes at a time. You’ll need a certain level of mobility to stand and walk around for most of my classes, unless otherwise stated, or the class is specifically seated.
Chronic muscle pain, or joint pain, but you are still able to use your muscles and joints.
Chronic mild to moderate anxiety.
Working through emotional issues, anger, and control issues.
Old sports injuries, but you’re still relatively active.
Want support in areas where medical support hasn’t worked.
Martial arts practitioners who want to learn more of the internal arts, the energetic stuff, and want to soften up a bit.
Practicing sports applies to all racket sports, basketball, baseball, and can support and help. Tai chi will help hand/eye coordination support.
Deepen and expand a meditation practice. Bring sitting meditation practices into movement and action.
You want to learn about the more subtle energetic components of your life.
People who’ve been interested in Tai Chi for a while or are picking it back up as a practice
Need to be able to walk up stairs (there is no elevator access to the classroom) and stand for 20-30 minutes at a time.
People who are curious about Tai chi and whether it’s something they want to pursue
Dust off an old practice they used to do, but haven’t done in a while.
If you've been practicing a while and need a new perspective, please join! You will get what you need.
WHO THIS PRACTICE IS NOT FOR:
If you want to hurt and dominate others, we won’t work well together.
My classes aren’t well-suited for folks who’re extremely limited in their mobility. Group classes aren’t ideal for fused joints and extreme body limitations. If you have extreme body limitations, reach out to me about private sessions so we can build a curated practice for you to augment the work you do with your medical professionals.
If you’re looking for this to cure all your ailments. These classes are for maintenance and improvement, not meant to replace medical professional support.
No self-defense or fighting art, this is not the class for that. If you’re interested in that, let me know and I’ll get you on the waitlist for my self-defense workshops.
